Home-Remedies To Brighten Up Your Skin

Gone are the days when people only wanted glowing and brighten skin, now they wish for softer, smoother, and blemish-free skin. Not everyone has glowing and flawless skin. Though there are a load of face brightening cream available on the beauty aisle of a supermarket that claim to brighten up your skin and help in the rejuvenation of dead skin cells, who knows if they are worth it?

And naturally, using home remedies rather than chemicals on your face is a good way to brighten your skin. Using chemical products affects the skin and may make it acne-prone or cause irritation if you have sensitive skin.

Some Home Remedies Which Will Brighten Up Your Skin

Home remedies take time to show the results but their results are sure and improve the health of the skin in the longer run. Some home remedies are –

  • Turmeric

Turmeric contains an ingredient called curcumin which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Along with this, turmeric is blessed with antibacterial properties. Turmeric helps in the elimination of free radicals which are responsible for damaging the skin.

Turmeric enhances collagen production which prevents aging of skin. It also reduces the puffiness of the face. It rejuvenates the skin and gives it a glow.

Turmeric is beneficial for people who have dry and oily skin.

To make turmeric paste, you need ½ to 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 4 tablespoons of gram flour or chickpea flour, and milk or water.

Mix the turmeric powder with the gram flour and add milk or water to make a paste. Apply the paste on your face and let it settle for about 15-20 minutes. Wash it away with water. Do this at least 1-2 times a week to get the glow.

Do not leave the paste too long on your face as turmeric can stain the skin yellow if kept on for a too long period.

  • Coconut Oil

This home remedy is best for you if you have dull and dry skin. Coconut oil is known to lock the moisture in the skin and nourish it with fatty acids. It also protects your skin from UV rays though it is not a replacement for sunscreen.

All you need is virgin coconut oil, warm it up and apply it to your face and neck. Massage the oil in small circular motions and leave it overnight.

You can even add sugar to the oil and use it as a scrub to exfoliate the skin once or twice a week.

Do not use the oil if you have oily skin as it can clog the pores and lead to breakouts.

  • Aloe Vera

Aloe vera can be used by anyone with any skin type. It has nourishing and healing properties which help in the rejuvenation of dead skin cells. It is rich in vitamins and antioxidants which keep the skin glowing and soft.

It prevents acne and helps in the faster healing of sunburns. Using aloe vera keeps skin hydrated, improves its elasticity, and prevents the development of wrinkles.

You can either consume aloe vera as a drink such as a smoothie and juice or apply it directly over your skin. To apply it over your skin, you have to mix 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel with a pinch of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of milk.

Apply this mixture on your face and neck evenly and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can use aloe vera 1-2 times a week.

  • Papaya

Ripe papaya contains papain, an enzyme that has exfoliator-like properties. It is known for the removal of the top layer of dead cells on the face making your face look radiant and younger looking. Papain has skin-lightening properties and can lighten blemishes and scars.

To make a papaya face mask, you need a few pieces of ripe papaya, 1 teaspoon of Fuller’s earth (Multani mitti), and 1 teaspoon of honey. Fuller’s earth helps in cleansing pores, tones the skin, and improves the overall complexion. Honey hydrates the skin and reduces blemishes on the skin.

Cut the papaya into small pieces and add fuller earth and honey to it. Mix all the ingredients and apply them over your face and neck. Rinse the paste with water after 20 minutes of application.

  • Cucumber

Cucumber is just the solution for you if you have dry, chapped skin with dark circles. Skin and cucumber have the same pH level. It helps in replenishing the skin’s protective layer and keeps the skin hydrated thus promoting healthy and glowing skin.

It rejuvenates dull skin with antioxidants and brightens the skin. You need a cucumber and 2-3 tablespoons of yogurt. Grate the cucumber and add yogurt. Mix the ingredients well and apply it to your face and neck. Leave it on until it dries for about 5 minutes and washes it with cold water.

You can use this mixture 3-4 days a week.

  • Ubtan

Ubtan is a type of face mask that has been passed down through generations. It is a mixture of 1 cup split red lentils (masoor dal) or chickpea flour (besan), 1/4 cup raw rice, 8-9 almonds, 1/2 cup oatmeal, A pinch of turmeric, and water or rose water.

The coarseness of the lentils, rice, and oatmeal help in removing dirt and dead cells from the skin.

Turmeric helps in fading of blemishes and gives the skin a natural glow. Almonds along with essential oils keep the skin nourished and hydrated.

You can make ubtan by grinding lentils, rice, and almonds together. Add oatmeal and turmeric powder and mix well with water or rose water to make a paste. Apply the pack on your face and wash it once it has dried. You can apply this paste all over your body as it gives a natural glow. Wash it with normal water.

Apply the face mask once in 7-10 days.
